Improve Performance with Running Technique Training!
For this week’s blog I would like to share with you a personal story from a previous client. For privacy purposes, we will just call him John.
John was a 30-year-old male in great shape, but he suffered from recurring “shin splints.” Despite his shin pain, he spent the past two years training for a highly competitive position within the military. He was working out 6 days a week and his routine included running, weightlifting and hiking with a 60-lb backpack.
John really enjoyed hiking and running, but as a result, he would experience excruciating shin pain after about 1.5 to 2 miles of either activity. Determined to overcome this challenge and reach his goals, he finally decided to seek medical treatment. John saw multiple providers including primary care physicians, physical therapists and even a podiatrist. John also tried many self-care treatments like stretching, rest, ice packs and shoe inserts. Despite two years of various treatments, John saw no improvement.
His frustration began to grow and he became desperate to find a solution. One day, a coworker told him about the Pose Method Running. John did a google search and was able to find certified running technique specialists in his area- and that’s when he reached out to us.
After an initial consultation, John received an in-depth video running analysis and a few weeks of running technique training. After three months of training, John sent this to his running coach.
He had decreased his 2-mile run time from 16:36 to 14:04!!!
Though the majority of the credit goes to John for his dedication and hard work, this shows the power of having a coach to assist you with identifying running mistakes that you might not have otherwise been privy to. Poor running technique is one of the most common causes of running related injuries and decreased performance. As our friend John quickly learned, receiving an in-depth video running analysis was beneficial to overcoming his injuries.
